View Royal is a great place to live, and we must protect what makes it special.
Traffic congestion, rising taxes, development pressures and the need for effective municipal governance demand practical decisions and strong leadership.
I am running for Mayor to bring independent, evidence-based leadership to Town Hall and focus on four priorities:
1. Traffic and Transportation
View Royal is at a regional transportation crossroads. Traffic generated across the growing West Shore increasingly affects our roads, intersections and neighbourhoods.
View Royal cannot solve this problem alone.
I will work with the Province, Capital Regional District, neighbouring municipalities and BC Transit to pursue practical improvements to:
- Highways and major intersections
- Traffic flow and congestion
- Public transit
- Local roads and transportation infrastructure
- Walking and cycling connections
- Regional through-traffic affecting residential streets
Walking, cycling, transit and automobiles all have a role.
We need a transportation system that works for everyone.
2. Taxes and Better Value
Residents deserve value for every tax dollar.
Before taxpayers are asked for more, we should be confident existing resources are being used effectively.
I will advocate for:
- Spending and contract reviews
- Operational efficiencies
- Transparent project costs
- Disciplined long-term financial planning
- Responsible management of reserves and debt
- Careful infrastructure planning
- Measurable results from major expenditures
Fiscal responsibility does not mean cutting essential services. Police, fire, emergency services and critical infrastructure must remain priorities.
It means setting priorities and spending taxpayers’ money carefully.
Better value. Responsible spending. Measurable results.
3. Development and Responsible Growth
View Royal will grow, but growth must work for our community—not overwhelm it.
I will support development that:
- Fits our infrastructure
- Respects established neighbourhoods
- Addresses traffic and parking
- Protects trees, waterways and natural areas
- Provides appropriate community amenities
- Considers the cumulative impact of development
Infrastructure must be planned alongside growth. Roads, drainage, sewer systems, parks and other community infrastructure should keep pace with development rather than trying to catch up afterward.
Growth should provide appropriate housing while protecting the qualities that make people want to live in View Royal in the first place.
Build complete communities, not simply more buildings.
4. Governance and Accountability
Good municipal government requires clear priorities, effective oversight, transparency and accountability for results.
Council establishes policy and priorities. Municipal administration implements them. Both must understand their responsibilities and work effectively together while respecting their distinct roles.
As Mayor, I will promote:
- Clear priorities and expectations from Council
- Respect for the roles of Council and professional staff
- Effective oversight of municipal performance
- Earlier and meaningful public consultation
- Clear, accessible financial information
- Transparent decision-making
- Regular measurement and reporting of results
For every major initiative, Council should ask:
What problem are we solving?
What alternatives have we considered?
What will it cost?
What are the risks?
Who is accountable for delivery?
How will we measure success?
And residents should be able to ask:
What did Council promise—and what was actually delivered?
My Commitment
My executive experience in high technology, business transformation, project management and management consulting has taught me to analyze complex problems, challenge assumptions, manage risk, build teams, and focus on results.
I will bring that discipline to the Mayor’s office.
I will work constructively with neighbouring First Nations, regional partners and other levels of government and ensure View Royal has a strong voice when decisions affecting our community are made.
