Born and raised in Germany, Volker studied physics, mathematics, and physical education, earning a Diplom-Physiker degree in experimental physics, broadly equivalent to a master’s degree in physics. He also earned the Project Management Professional (PMP) credential from the Project Management Institute and an ITIL Foundation certificate.
After several years in university research, Volker joined a group of privately held high-tech companies in southern England before moving to Montreal, Canada, in 1988.
His career spans more than 30 years in technology, customer care, business consulting, and project management. Through roles with IBM, SITA, IATA, and other organizations, he served clients in aviation, financial services, government, and technology, leading and contributing to complex global projects with multimillion-dollar budgets.
Throughout his career, Volker developed an independent, evidence-based approach to leadership and a practical focus on achieving results. As a listener, team builder, mediator, and mentor, he has worked with people from different backgrounds and perspectives to navigate difficult decisions, solve problems, and turn plans into action.
Volker and his family moved to View Royal in 2021. Since then, he has followed Council closely and become increasingly engaged in the issues affecting the Town and its residents.
His decision to run for Mayor comes from a desire to put his experience to work for the community he now calls home. He believes View Royal can grow thoughtfully while protecting the qualities that make it a special place to live: safe and welcoming neighbourhoods, responsible municipal services, green spaces, and a strong sense of community.
As Mayor, Volker would bring an independent and collaborative approach to Town Hall, focused on careful decision-making, responsible use of taxpayers’ money, constructive relationships with Council and staff, and listening to the people of View Royal.
